The first day of October, and after the Indian Summer, the heat begins to subside, but not the warmth. The leaves of the deciduous trees change from green to ochre and red tones, until they dry and fall, aided by the increasingly strong winds.
We’re starting to update the wardrobe, getting our trouser and long-sleeved shirts, turtlenecks, sweaters and coats, closed shoes and boots ready. Time to get out the blanket and prepare the duvet!
When we arrived to do our shopping, we found a different selection. We saw more pumpkin, zucchini, and sweet potato, and also pomegranates, artichokes, chard, chestnuts, and mushrooms. This reminded us of all the routes one can take in this region to forage for mushrooms (always with expert guidance) and enjoy the forest, nature, the changing light, exercise, and well-being. Beautiful and free landscapes that fill the senses and the soul.
Now it’s truly starting to feel like autumn, and we can look forward to the festivities and traditions of the season. In Barcelona and cities like Sant Cugat del Vallès, the diversity of nationalities and cultures has brought celebrations like Halloween, which have already taken their place, filling the streets with color, sweets, and joy, while maintaining beautiful and delicious local traditions like the Castañada and paving the way for other rich customs like the Mexican Day of the Dead.
