In 2013, the Law to Support Entrepreneurs came into force in Spain, which also encourages investors from outside the European Union to invest in assets, business projects, and public debt. It introduces a new framework for skilled immigration that promotes the international mobility of professionals and those who invest in real estate, businesses, and Spanish companies in Spain.
Today we want to explain how non-European citizens can quickly obtain residency in Spain with the Golden Visa program.
Who can apply for an investor visa?
All those who make a significant investment in Spain:
1. Minimum real estate investment of €500,000
2. Shares or bank deposits (1 million euros)
3. Public debt (2 million euros)
4. Business projects in Spain considered to be of general interest.
Characteristics
- The payment must be made in full up to €500,000 and without any encumbrances up to that amount (loans and mortgages cannot be used)
- In addition to your permit as the main investor, you can also apply for residency for your spouse and children in the same application.
- To obtain a Golden Visa, the investor does not need to reside in Spain. The accompanying family may reside in Spain, in which case any children subject to the obligation to attend school must be enrolled.
- The investor and their family must have public or private health insurance and be able to demonstrate that they have sufficient financial resources to support themselves.
- Once you have obtained your Golden visa, you will be able to move easily and freely throughout the Schengen area.
- To maintain your investor visa, you only need to travel to Spain once a year (you do not need to reside for more than 183 days as many other visas require).
- The investment does not have to be maintained after the granting of long-term residence (after 5 years).
- The Golden Visa allows all holders to work throughout Spain.
How long does this residence permit last?
Once the investor has obtained their Golden Visa, they will have two years to reside legally in Spanish territory.
After this period, the applicant can request a renewal that will allow them to be a legal resident for an additional five years if they can demonstrate that they still own the asset that was the subject of the investment; whether it be property, shares/stakes, or government bonds. In addition, they must have visited Spain at least once during the year.
It’s important to note that the Golden Visa is one of the pathways to obtaining Spanish citizenship. After 10 years of legal residence in Spain, the investor can begin the necessary application process.
It’s a quick process
