The Ministry of Universities has presented a draft Royal Decree establishing the conditions for the recognition, equivalency, and validation of university degrees from foreign education systems. According to the Ministry, this decree represents a clear commitment to efficiency, transparency, and guarantees in processes that directly affect citizens’ lives.
This pandemic has demonstrated the need to expedite these types of procedures to attract qualified professionals, as they are currently in processes with a two-year delay.
This reform aims to streamline procedures without lowering academic standards. The goal is to reduce the process for validating or recognizing foreign degrees to six months.
Applications can be submitted electronically to the Ministry of Universities, and a tracking number will be automatically generated. If the application is approved, the degree will be issued within approximately ten days; if it is denied, the applicant will have fifteen days to submit an appeal, and the Ministry will have another fifteen days to respond. The new development is that degrees issued in countries within the European Higher Education Area or in countries with which studies are recognized will not be subject to review by the equivalency committee. Currently, there are automatic equivalencies with certain prestigious universities in Argentina, Colombia, and Chile.
I hope this helps everyone who is thinking of moving to Spain in search of new opportunities.
